Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is a minimally invasive technique used to restore normal sinus function by opening up blocked sinus drainage pathways. Dr. Lessow uses special imaging technology, instrumentation with magnification to widen the natural sinus openings and remove diseased tissue and thin bony cells.

She uses computed tomography (CT scan) to visualize the anatomy and identify diseased and blocked areas. Endoscopic sinus surgery does not involve any incisions in the outer skin. Advancements in technology have allowed us to use endoscopy to perform the surgery through the natural openings of your nose using computer assisted imaging guidance to more easily identify normal anatomical landmarks, which may have been altered by disease or removed from previous surgery. The technology allows us to see exactly where our instruments are on the CT scan while we are operating.
